360 Video
After taking a series of classes on immersive media in college I became thoroughly intrigued by the new possibilities that immersive mediums such as 360 video, VR, and Stereoscopic imagery presented for story telling.
After graduating, I worked as a Multimedia intern at KUT/X (Austin’s local NPR affiliate station). The radio station had recently been given 360 video equipment by Samsung. I was brought on with a few other students from the immersive media classes to try and find creative ways to use this equipment to make new content series for KUT/X’s media platforms.
Here are a few examples of 360 video work that I’ve done with KUT/X
This was the first 360 video that I shot and edited to support a KUT story. It covered a new island that has been growing on the edge of Lady Bird Lake.
I shot and edited this video to integrate with a story that one of the radio journalists was doing over an new energy efficient subdivision just outside of Austin, TX. I was given the radio cut of the audio by the journalist and integrated it into the video. I added graphics throughout the video to incorporate small bits of information that didn’t make it into the final radio cut of the story.
This video was made after the news that the graffiti park in Austin, TX will be removed. I believe that 360 video was the best way to document this location before it was removed.
I tagged along with one of the multimedia producers who was conducting interviews for a radio story and shot footage the footage for this video.
In editing I integrated the interviews to try and display the human side of this public art space.
KUTX Studio 1A Live Sessions:
KUTX is the music side of the station, they have a long running series of musical guests performing live from their studio 1A. I have had a lifelong passion for live music and tried to integrate 360 video into these performances.
These are my favorites of the videos that we shot over that summer. You can view the entire KUTX 360 play list here
